  • Jr Bears Youth Triathlon

Black Bear Aquatics, a youth swim team in Orono, ME, is hosting our second annual youth triathlon on June 4, 2016.  It's an awesome event for kids, 6-14, to experience the sport for the first time -- or again --- in a safe fun, yet competitive environment. We need up to 65 volunteers for this event -- as a youth event, we need many pairs of eyes watching the kids on the course. All volunteers will get free Moe's BBQ after the event (11am.) You must be 18 or older to participate as a volunteer. We would be VERY grateful for your support!

  • Maine's Golf Heritage Scramble

The Poland Spring Preservation Society which is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the Maine State Building and All Souls Chapel, is pleased to announce the Maine Heritage Golf Scramble at Poland Spring Resort on June 7th with a shotgun start of 9:00 am and 7:30 registration.  This “walk through history” will include golf memorabilia including pictures of famous golfers such as Harry Vardon, athletes such as Babe Ruth and many others who walked the links at Poland Spring.  Participants in the scramble will get to play holes using vintage, hickory shafted, clubs and to hit from an original tee box similar to the ones used in the very early days of golf.  There will be exciting contests, including longest drive (with a hickory shafted club), Hole-In One Contest, sponsored by Emerson Chevrolet, putting contest, and prizes for the best period dress for men & women. A Silent Auction will feature historical golf pictures and other memorabilia along with traditional auction items.  There will be a raffle with exciting prizes and the continental breakfast and registration will feature bagpipe music which we believe Arthur Fenn & Donald Ross, the golf course architects, would approve. The Poland Spring Preservation Society museum and related programs will receive all proceeds for this very important fund raiser.  We thank you for your interest in and support of our mission.
